I-89 Bridge project
Vermont's Accelerated Bridge Program
Since starting this program in 2012 to expedite project delivery speed using efficient and innovative methods, the Vermont Agency of Transportation has rebuilt 28 bridges.
By reducing the time it takes to construct a new bridge, VTrans has been able to save money spent on design, utility and Right-of-Way impacts and road closures. It also minimizes disruption to travelers and commerce.
The Accelerated Bridge Program encourages early and continued public engagement, streamlining design and plan preparation while exploring innovative contracting and construction techniques.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation is planning a project to replace the decks of four I-89 highway bridges between exit 16 and exit 17 in Colchester.
Bridges 76 North & South are located over Bay Road and Bridges 77 North & South are located over Malletts Creek.
The project will replace the existing bridge decks, which are in fair to poor condition, with new precast deck panels. The current bridge and approach railings will also be replaced to meet today’s crash standards.
Accelerated Bridge Construction methods will be used to reduce the impact to the traveling public. No I-89 road closure is planned because crossovers will be used.
